BLUES in Michigan
Time with the Rusty Wright Band
Actually, a rehearsal. In October I crawled around among cords and mics and heard some great sounds. Several months ago I heard a few cuts off their CD on Sonny Rock’s radio show “Local Licks on WRIP’ …I called Sonny being one of the best resources; I was able to get a press kit and actually talked with Laurie and Rusty Wright over their reubens at a local diner by phone. I am sure anyone interested in their conversation thought them famous.
They put together a CD,This, That, & The Other Thing earlier in 2013
Rusty Wright on lead guitar, vocals, and primary song writer.
Laurie LaCross-Wright, rhythm guitar and vocals.
Dave Brahce-keys and B3, guitar
Peterr Haist-drums and vocals
Dennis Bellinger-bass and vocals.
A short review of This That &the Other Thing
It starts with Whole Lotta Rosie by lyric of Bon Scott and AC/DC fame. Puts you right into the sounds of Laurie LaCross-Wright whose strong voice rings straight and true next to Rusty’s soulful guitar licks. She tells of a story of a ‘Man on Fire’,with no ability to say no. He recognizes is life is burning around him but he is attracted to that fire. Driven.
A familiar sound from Mountain’s Mississippi Queen shows some strong progressions as the ‘Alarm Clock Blues’ shows taking a stand for important things, such as in “Pen & Sword”, a peaceful plea.
This summer, new faces joined the band.
Bob Manzitti joined with vocals and keyboards,, Brad Verpoort on drums. That afternoon they shared some familiar tunes and practiced, almost forgetting I was there.
You may find more information on their website, wwwRustyWrightBand.com They are planning a tour schedule that will take them east and west and off to foreign lands. They have historically traveled through Europe and entertained troops. They are now being heard over 57,000 jukebox airwaves.
They state about their CD and tour schedule…”This is a work of many influences. Mostly its music made by musicians for the love of it all. We hope you find the love in it too.”
